FAT Collaboration

The FAT project was a collaboration that took place in second year between students from fashion, architecture and textiles, with approximately 3 students from each course in one group. The aim of the week long collaborative project was to take a word that was given to the group. and find inspiration from this word in Poole, mainly in the old town and quay area.

The word that was given to our group was ‘perforation’. The definition of perforation is:-

‘A hole made by boring or piercing’ (The Free Dictionary, 2014).

On the first day, the whole group went over to Poole, to see where inspiration for perforation could be found in the area. Different items were found and photographs were taken, and following on from this, an idea for what might be created started evolving.

The fashion and textiles students created perforated samples out of many different materials, using different methods, and the architecture students made a 1:1250 plywood model of Poole Quay.

Although at the time the group was unsure how these would work together, after much experimentation, the samples were put on to the model, and created canopies for the street. By shining lights through the perforated canopies, they created interesting patterns on the street, and  produced an fascinating piece of collaborative work.
