Future Scenarios

For ARC 552, the topic that had to be studied was future scenarios. The possible future scenario that I explored for this unit was the population rise in Poole. The narrative behind the proposal was that as the population of Poole continues to rise at a high rate as it has been doing, there wouldn’t be enough accommodation available to house all of the individuals. Therefore, a solution needed to be thought of, in order to rectify the situation.
2024: New housing blocks are built
2034: The blocks have fallen into disrepair, as in a rush to provide accommodation, bad choices were made referring to the design of them. Each block is the same and the residents don’t feel like they have a personalised home, they have just been designed for mass control of the situation
2134: The accommodation blocks are completely unused and have turned into ruins
2154: Redesigned accommodation has been created inside the ruins, with public spaces and cafes on the ground floor and inside the ruin walls, and an identity has been given to the new buildings, using the famous Poole Pottery tiles. The red and blue was chosen to make reference to the earlier curiosity shop and music school, so the three proposals provide a link through Poole. Wide boulevards have been created in-between the ruins with room for pedestrians to roam freely, and the cars are kept to the outside of the ruins, and this leaves for a much more relaxed places to live, with an identity and uniqueness about it

The area in red is the site of the Lighthouse and music school, and the highlighted blue areas are possible focus areas for the future scenario.
